Cha Cha Cha - Spot Turns

The Spot Turns are a basic Cha Cha Cha movement and can either be danced as a step in their own right, as shown here, or they can form a part of other moves such as the Under Arm Turn. When done as part of another move Spot Turns can be dance by either one partner at a time or by both dancers at the same time. The Spot Turn can also turn in either direction.

The Spot Turn itself takes only 2 beats to dance and can be thought of as New York but with a full turn. When dancing a New York you step through with either your left or right foot, pivoting away from your partner, and then pivot back the way you came ready for the chasse. With the Spot Turn your pivot continues in the same direction so that you do one complete turn to either your left or right. Spot Turns to the left start by stepping through with your right foot, Spot Turns to the right are started by stepping through with your left foot.

Spot Turns Mens / Ladies Steps
Lead in to the Spot Turns by doing the first 6 steps of the Basic Step then continue as below.
Step 1
Men - Pivot on your right foot 1/4 turn to your right and step through between you and your partner with your left foot, place your weight onto your left foot. You and your partner should now be side by side facing the same direction.
Ladies - Pivot on your left foot 1/4 turn to your left and step through between you and your partner with your right foot, place your weight onto your right foot .You and your partner should now be side by side facing the same direction.
Step 2
Men - With your weight on your left foot pivot a further 1/2 turn to your right and then place your weight onto your right foot. When pivoting to your right for the 1/2 turn make sure your feet stay in place.
Ladies - With your weight on your right foot pivot a further 1/2 turn to your left and then place your weight onto your left foot. When pivoting to your left for the 1/2 turn make sure your feet stay in place.
Step 3
Men - Pivot a final 1/4 turn to face your partner. Step to your left with your left foot. This is the first step of a standard chasse to your left. You should now be facing your partner.
Ladies - Pivot a final 1/4 turn to face your partner. Step to your right with your right foot. This is the first step of a standard chasse to your right. You should now be facing your partner.
Step 4
Men - Close your right foot to the side of your left foot.
Ladies - Close your left foot to the side of your right foot.
Step 5
Men - Step out to the left with your left foot.
Ladies - Step out to the right with your right foot.
Step 6
Men - Pivot on your left foot 1/4 turn to your left and step through between you and your partner with your right foot, place your weight onto your right foot. You and your partner should now be side by side facing the same direction.
Ladies - Pivot on your right foot 1/4 turn to your right and step through between you and your partner with your left foot, place your weight onto your left foot .You and your partner should now be side by side facing the same direction.
Step 7
Men - With your weight on your right foot pivot a further 1/2 turn to your left and then place your weight onto your left foot. When pivoting to your left for the 1/2 turn make sure your feet stay in place.
Ladies - With your weight on your left foot pivot a further 1/2 turn to your right and then place your weight onto your right foot. When pivoting to your right for the 1/2 turn make sure your feet stay in place.
Step 8
Men - Pivot a final 1/4 turn to face your partner. Step to your right with your right foot. This is the first step of a standard chasse to your right. You should now be facing your partner.
Ladies - Pivot a final 1/4 turn to face your partner. Step to your right with your right foot. This is the first step of a standard chasse to your left. You should now be facing your partner.
Step 9 Men - Close your left foot to the side of your right foot.
Ladies - Close your right foot to the side of your left foot.
Step 10
Men - Step out to the right with your right foot. Once completed you can the repeat by going back to beat one.
Ladies - Step out to the left with your left foot. Once completed you can the repeat by going back to beat one.
Count 1, 2, 3 and 4, 1, 2, 3 and 4
